NSCN (I-M) condemns assault
Dimapur Dec 4:
NSCN (I-M) today said that one of its member identified as one ‘lieut’ Ch.Robert of Samjiuram village was allegedly “tortured and beaten black and blue with iron bar and blunt object without any provocation” by “unification group” December 2.
According to a statement from MIP/GPRN, the incident occurred in between Kevi B village and Sukhuvi army training center, under Peren district at around 8 p.m. The MIP said the victim along with his auto driver identified as one Rangkhumbo of Beisumpuikam village was returning from Jalukie when around seven cadres of “unification group” waylaid and “arrested” them.
“The brutality did not spare even the driver who earns his livelihood on driving auto. The rogue cadres also seized the possession of Lieut. Robert, a mobile, cash amounting to Rs. 4500/-, a cap and an emergency lamp who was left unconscious,” the NSCN (I-M) stated.
The cadres were stated to be in a vehicle, who then forced the driver and “lieut.” Robert to follow them with their auto to another unknown place. “However, the driver who was allowed to drive without blind-folding sensing danger to their lives fortunately speeded off from an intersection and escaped,” the GPRN/MIP statement said.
It alleged that “the crime was understood to have committed with the knowledge of their higher-ups (Unification group) who indulged and ignored to talk with Lieut. Robert over phone only saying this is your own luck.”
While “vehemently” condemning the incident, the NSCN (I-M) said it viewed this with serious concern as a “disturbing development” and as an effort to “butcher the hard-earned peace and cessation of hostilities among all factions.” It underlined that such incidents, instead of resolving problems further aggravate, promote and feed violence and differences that cannot be overlooked.
The NSCN (I-M) also stated that it was yet another “shocking incident” where “the so called Unification group in contrary to their condescending claim for peace, unity, reconciliation and to exercise utmost restraint from all forms of offensive activities and hostilities has once again repeated its sadistic nature of deliberate inhuman crime.”
