Time for Nagas to take right decision: Muivah

NSCN (I-M) General Secretary and the group’s chief negotiator in the Naga peace talks, Th. Muivah, has said that the time has again come for Nagas to take the “right decision” as done by the founding fathers of the Naga National Council (NNC) in the past.
Highlighting the progress of the ongoing “Indo-Naga political talks” on the occasion of the 23rd Republic Day celebration of NSCN (I-M) at Camp Hebron, Muivah said after years of struggle and tough negotiations, India has finally recognized the “unique history and situation of the Nagas” and expressed willingness to walk the extra mile to find a solution to the Naga issue.
“Now India cannot back track…When India is prepared for solution, it is now time again for Nagas to take the right decision,” he said.
The NSCN (I-M) general secretary said history has shown that in the process of “change” or “turning” many nations and people are lost as they could not take the correct decision at that critical point.
In the case of the Nagas, Muivah said that in the critical moment of Naga history the Naga leaders led by NNC did not fail the Nagas as they took the correct decision to be a free people and nation. “We owe our today to the right decision take by the NNC leadership,” he said.
Referring to the Shillong Accord as a blot in Naga history, the NSCN (I-M) leader however said that God too did not fail the Nagas as Nagas trusted in Him.
“Did God not save us from the treachery of Shillong Accord?” Muivah asked and added, “of course He saved us.”
He said after 20 years of bitter armed struggle from the Shillong Accord, it was God who changed the hearts of Indian leaders and generals as they finally admitted that “military solution” was not possible.
“What have the Naga people done for God? There is a gap between Naga people and God. The failure is with us, not with God,” he said.
