Next round of talks in ‘Naga country’
Viswema | May 21 : Emissary to the collective leadership of the NSCN/GPRN, V.S Atem today disclosed that the next round of talks with the Government of India would be held within Naga territory and not in India or in a foreign land. Addressing newsmen at Viswema village where NSCN/GPRN general secretary Th. Muivah is camping, Atem said the NSCN has put forward the proposal for the talks to be held in Naga country and the Government of India is not averse to the idea. The NSCN/GPRN has several places in mind including some Naga areas within Manipur State, he said adding however it is yet to decide on a specific location.
Also, stating that no time frame has been given for the next round of talks, the talks would not be confined to the Mao incident and Muivah’s proposed visit to his homeland.
If this materializes, it would be for the first time within the present ceasefire that the talks are being held within Naga territory. Sources said that the next round of talks between the government of India and the NSCN/GPRN will be held next week.
