Court convicts NSCN leader

New Delhi, May 31 :NSCN (I-M) functionary ‘lt col’ Hopeson Ningshen has been held guilty by a Special CBI Court at Patiala House, New Delhi on Saturday for the “abduction and murder” of Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Kasom Khullen, Ukhrul district, Manipur Thingnam Kishan and his two subordinates Y. Token and A. Rajen in February, 2009.

According to sources, Hopson was held guilty in the court of Special CBI judge V.K. Gupta for the commission of offences punishable under Section 302, 364 A, 394 read with 120B IPC in the presence of CBI senior public prosecutor AK Singh and the defense counsel Pancholi. However, the argument on quantum of sentences would be held on June 30. Hopson has been charged with the killing of Thingnam Kishan and two others.
The case was handed over to the investigating agency on January 31, 2010. Mention be made that the three were abducted from somewhere in Ukhrul district and found killed at Taphou area in Senapati district on February 17, 2009.
Metropolitan Magistrate of Tis Hazari Court had submitted the recorded confessional statement of Hopson to the Special Judge, Patiala House Court, New Delhi.
It was also reported that during the course of the case at the CBI court, Patiala Court, New Delhi, a total of 37 witnesses had given their statements in 57 sittings. It may also be mentioned that there was also another case filed at the Gauhati High Court by the father of the late SDO against the then Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Pankaj Pal.
