Alleged ‘terror acts’ by Karbi UG cadres again: CNRH/NRHPF

DIMAPUR, SEP 13:After a gap of around 8 months, Council of Naga Rengma Hills (CNRH)/Naga Rengma Hills Protection Force (NRHPF) has alleged that Karbi underground (UG) cadres have restarted committing alleged “terror acts” against Rengma Nagas in Karbi Anglong.

In a press release, CNRH/NRHPF chairman Keyhang Rengma said on September 12, Karbi underground armed cadres numbering around six stopped a group of Rengma women while they were on their way to Western Rengma Christian Centre, near A Jongpha for a service.

He said the cadres stopped the women at Check Bari area between Tseguchangri (Borlangso) and Lolashongnyu (Sarihuti) and started frisking them in an objectionable manner. The cadres also reportedly took all the cell-phones of the women and threatened them of dire consequences if they leaked news of the incident. The Karbi cadres reportedly threatened with “shoot at sight” and “flush out” warnings. Keyhang Rengma said on August 2, 2014 in Kassar village, one Rajan Ingti of Lokhiram Village, who was the main accused in the murder of late Nzankheng Rengma had warned the Rengma public asking them under what assurance the Rengmas had returned to their respective villages and under whose “guarantee”, they had come back.

Questioning the act, Keyhang Rengma asked why the Assam police had released Rajan Ingti who allegedly masterminded the killing of Nzankheng Rengma. He also accused the Assam Police of being “hands in gloves” with Karbi underground groups and asked where was “the dead body of late Nzankheng Rengma.”

He also said that Late Nzangkheng’s family had apart from filing an FIR, also explained the whole episode to Assam Police. If the Assam police react like this, there would not be approached by Rengma Nagas in the near future.

Keyhang Rengma said if the Karbi underground cadres continue to issue threats to the Rengma Nagas, the CNRH/NRHPF would not remain a silent spectator and warned that the “Karbis underground will get back what they want from us.” Keyhang Rengma asked the Rengma public to be alert.
