‘Concrete talks on alt arrangement now’

Dimapur, May 24: The United Naga Council has requested prayers from the churches on Sunday May 29 for “fulfillment of our quest for self-governance” even as the third round of tripartite talks of the Government of India, the Government of Manipur and the United Naga Council is to begin. The talks are on the demand of the UNC for an ‘alternate arrangement’, and scheduled for May 30 in Tahamzam, in Senapati, Manipur.
“After the two rounds of tripartite talk, we have now come to the crucial stage where we are to dialogue for the alternative arrangement in more concrete terms. Effort is being taken to hold consultation involving cross section of the Naga civil society before the talk,” the UNC informed in a note today. UNC’s President Samson Remei and chairperson of Committee for Alternative Arrangement, Sword Vashum, appended the note.
The second tripartite talk was held on December 3, 2011, also at Tahamzam and it is after a lapse of almost 6 months that the next round of the talk is being convened.
“We are sending out this information with an earnest appeal for holding special prayer service/mass in the churches under the association/regional organization on Sunday, the 29th of May, 2011 so that the same will take place with the blessing of the Almighty God and lead to fulfillment of our quest for self governance,” a note from the UNC stated today.
“After having submitted the demand for Government of India’s intervention with an alternative arrangement for the Nagas, the process of dialogue through tripartite talk is being taken forward at the instance of the union government,” the UNC said.
